Purple Pills

I know you want Bobby’s take on Favre.  Here it is.

Does the picture of Brett wearing purple ignite rage in your soul? It should. I’ve been silent on the Favre issue for quite some time. I understood why he wanted to continue to play football last year. He’d been a football player his whole life, so who was I to judge him for wanting to keep his career rolling?

However, playing for the Vikings is the brick that broke the camel’s back. I loved the guy for almost twenty years, but I’m a Packers’ fan first… period. Like any good intervention… I must  be brutal. If you act like a bitch, you should get treated like one.

I must have missed the news that Favre signed with the Vikings. I really need to stop working so much.

But anyway, I’m happy with Rodgers, and I’m glad we don’t have to go through the “Is he going to come back” routine every summer anymore.

But I don’t feel the need to jump on the “I hope Favre gets injured and is carried off a stretcher” bandwagon. That seems to be the trendy thing nowadays. Count me out.

To my knowledge he has not killed any puppies or mugged any old ladies. But then again, I was also unaware that he had signed with the Vikings, so I may be wrong.

Color me in said corner.. I think that kind of garbage is pathetic past the line the Favre has drawn in his inability to let it go..

Personally, we the Packers made a decision with regards to Favre, that was not taking him back after he retired. We could have taken him back, but the keys had been tossed to Rodgers.. life goes on.. same thing I would say to Brett, get over it already.

If Favre was a Viking before 2003, then I would upset.

Favre today, is some person who is doesn’t want to play football but is on a vendetta against a man who he views as evil.

My loyaltys stands with the Cult of Ted, because I knew the only way we can become a perennial super bowl contender is if we take the longer and hard road of trades. Now its coming to fruitition while other teams try to find a way to win.

Are you really passing that off as an argument? You’re like an inch away from telling people who aren’t upset they can’t be packer fans anymore. Proceed to your nearest doctor so he/she can prescribe you chill pills. It will help with that flaring sense of entitlement.

GREEN BAY TRADED HIM. If he’s still able to play and we have NO USE FOR HIM, why the hell is he obligated to stay retired? I’m sorry Brett, you’ve lost your right to compete, because Packer fans are going to take it the wrong way. And what about the fans that have been bashing him for a year? Despite your biotching, he is somehow morally obligated to appease your bitterness?

Take a lesson from our boy Barnett’s twitter. “Thoughts on frave… Well didn’t want to comment but hey anyways I think he should do what ever he feels is in his heart.. But once he puts. Once he puts that purple He will become an enemy which is all part of the game.” If he has no other playing options you shouldn’t be upset. It’s all apart of the game

Wow.. I figured some of you would have been pissed! In all seriousness, of course i dont want to see him pulled off the field in a stretcher. in the spirit of things im purposely being a bit over the top so dont get all of your panties in a wad. yes, we traded him, but he forced our hand. he tried to go behind closed doors and give detroit inside info on how to beat us. we treated him like a god for 17 years and he’s pretty much giving the organization (and fans) the finger. when you want to play for our arch nemesis just to “stick it to ted” that doesnt make you a guy who just wants to keep playing football… it makes you a giant douche, and as barnett says, the enemy. and yes, asshalo, i wrote that. :)

(Rolling my eyes). No, this has been argued and that’s not even remotely what happened.

“when you want to play for our arch nemesis just to “stick it to ted””

You assume he’s only doing this to stick it to the organization, but you have no way of knowing it for sure. Paul Hornung told Brett to play as long as he could because its the funnest thing he’ll EVER do. The thought of not ever playing again just may have something to do with it. Someone should parody Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da for the people that really don’t care he could play for the vikings. Life goes on.

Like pretty much everything that comes from Packer Palace I love it, and I am pretty much lockstep with you on all your Brett assessments. With all the extraordinary websites on this remarkable toy, Packer Palace consistently maintains an esteemed placing. And now thru it I have located this one which appears to be loads of fun, with sane people with a very good sense of humor responding. I am still waiting for the bombshell that will show the guilt of TT or anyone in management. But I just don’t see it, or much evidence of where it is that TT has done this unspeakably poor job. If he is guilty of anything, TT, it is of having to have made the most difficult decision in the history of the franchise. Anyone remember him saying he felt like passing off the release papers to someone else to sign, from what I can see here deep on the sidelines, he put TT in an absolutely unworkable position, and then to be bitter about it, I just don’t get it.

The Vikings would be crazy to sign a guy who is not interested in the team, but only focused on two games… and with his shoulder, its doubtful he will make it to the Lambeau field game at 100%…. the Vikings woud be much farther ahead giving Michael Vick a second chance (with a morals cause built into the contract of course)

I wish Favre all the best but if its revenge against the GM he wants.. rather than disrespect the fans.. he should go TP Ted Thompsons front yard.

Metaphor, my ass. When you write a hate article about a player and show a picture of a player on a stretcher, the intent is pretty clear. The song even mentions Brett leaving the field on a stretcher.

I am a Miami Dolphins fan, but have always had a soft spot for the Packers as my father and most of his family are from Wisconsin. So naturally, I was a Brett Favre fan….until last year when he joined the Jets. Now he’s trying to join a Packers division rival??? I’ll always love the Packers, but Brett Favre can kiss my ass.

  18. PackerHQ.net Said,

What can I say? The conspiracy theorists can argue all they want and do revisionist history all they want but facts are facts.
    1) TT did not kiss Brett’s butt and sign a horde of FAs while Brett was here but that was not an attempt to run Brett out of town. Thats just how TT operates. He is no more urgent to sign FAs with Rodgers as QB than he was with Brett. Is he now trying to run Rodgers out of town?

2)The decision to draft Rodgers was not an attempt to run Brett out of town. Rodgers was the best player on the board. Brett was 36. Brett had been waffling for a couple years already about retirement. The Packers had no quality backup QB let alone an heir apparent if Brett were to leave. And Rodgers just fell to them. And remember Brett kept the job for 3 years after Rodgers arrived and would have kept it in 2008 had Brett not retired.

    3) Brett did in fact retire on his own after the 2007 season. Could the Packers have welcomed him back? Sure. Can people be mad that they did not welcome him back? Of course. But lets not change the procuring cause of the problem which is that Brett decided to “hang em up”.

Brett was not forced out. Brett was not run off. Brett was not cut or traded until he himself made the first move by retiring. Folks can argue all you want that the Packers were wrong in trading him or not giving his starting job back or whatever but you cannot change the fact than Brett retired for the entire 2008 off season and then wanted to come back when camp opened and the Packers said “we’ve moved on.” Brett brought this on himself. Now he is invigorated to “stick it” to Green Bay and TT. That is just how it is. No spinning will change those basic facts!

All that being said, If you can excuse Favres acting out against his former team as “we have it coming”, then its only fair that some fans find it offensive and have every bit the right to voice their displeasure.

Well, in any case the level of discourse I see here certainly trumps the Press Gazette. Another cogent fact in the Brett drama is Rodgers contract would be up at the end of last year, had we let Brett come back do you think Rodgers, a Bay Area guy, would have resigned in Green Bay after such an actual show of disrespect, not the imagined one that Brett is living under. And I have to mention, that although TT made a perfectly good pursuit of the man who used the south end zone goalpost as his personal very public toilet, who I further admit appears to have become a man in the past 2 years, I still submit that the talent we have here at receiver has got to rank with any in the league, yet signifigant swaths of Packer nation seems certain that TT is a moron, I think he is pretty damn shrewd. But funny stuff here man, and love that name GinoStugats, even funnier if you are from Wisconsin where I do not think there are alot of actual Gino’s.
